Bethany Barnes has over five years of experience with many different breeds and personalities of dogs. She was certified as an E-Touch ™ Trainer by Heather Beck in 2007, which was when she started her company Wasatch Canine Camp.  Bethany was also lucky enough to learn Pack to Basics ™ from Chad Mackin, Vice President of the International Association of Canine Professionals.

Bethany with Heather Beck

Bethany has both a mental and physical connection with dogs and their behavior. Her experience growing up with animals throughout her life has helped her gain the gift of understanding dogs and how they think.  Through life’s challenges, Bethany has been able to learn how to control her energy, stay calm-assertive, and be patient.  With her energy, dogs that she works with are able to feel comfortable and trust her with what she wants them to do.  This helps them to relax so their unpleasant behaviors improve quickly.

Meet the Pack
Jake is a six-year-old male German Shepherd.  Bethany purchased Jake when she was 14-years-old and he was only nine weeks old.  Jake was a quick learner, and too smart for his own good.  As the first year of his life went on, Jake quickly learned many basic tricks.  As Bethany continued his training, he eventually learned to run obstacle courses, and also learned many different ways to fetch.  But the more things Bethany taught him, the more he rebelled.  For some reason Jake became dog aggressive within his first year with Bethany.  It was very discouraging for her to not be able to take him anywhere.  After years of trying many different training methods, nothing seemed to work.  Luckily, Bethany was able to work with Heather Beck, a trainer with many years of experience.  Heather told Bethany exactly what she was doing wrong with Jake.  With only six months of intensive training for Jake, he was finally able to get over his dog aggression.  Jake is now Bethany’s first choice to bring to other clients with dog aggressive dogs.  His mellow, calm-assertive energy helps the other dogs understand what they need to do in order to communicate with other dogs, rather than fight them.  Bethany is very grateful for all the experiences she has experienced with Jake, he has taught her so much, and will always be her top dog.

Sasha is a one-year-old female German Shepherd.  Bethany has had Sasha since she was a small, six week old pup.  Sasha is a very calm-dominant female.  Bethany likes to bring Sasha to clients that have very insecure dogs.  Since Sasha is still so young, she loves to play with the dogs to help bring them out of their insecure shell.  She then uses her calm-dominant energy so the other dog can trust in her.  Sasha also will help to correct the dog when they are doing something wrong, this way they can learn the correct ways to communicate with other dogs.

Rosco is a two-year-old male Chocolate Labrador Retriever.  Bethany has had Rosco since he was a six week old pup.  Rosco has always been a very smart guy, learning new things in just a few minutes.  But, Rosco is also a classic high energy Lab.  Unless Rosco gets at least two hours of exercise a day, he becomes a wild, hyper maniac that is very difficult to control.  When he gets his exercise he is a very mellow, happy-go-lucky, loving, and submissive guy.  Since he is so loving and outgoing, he is a very good dog to fix just about any type of dog behavior.  He helps teach other dogs they can relax around his mellow submissive energy.

Daddy is a three-year-old male Red Nose Pit Bull.  Bethany has had Daddy since he was two, when she rescued him from a no-kill shelter.  Daddy had lived at that shelter for a year and a half of his life before his home with Wasatch Canine Camp.  Daddy is a very strong willed calm-assertive dog that works extremely well with pushy dogs.  He puts off a very powerful energy that helps very dominant/pushy dogs submit almost instantly.  His energy once made a water-aggressive Great Dane submit to him and move away from the water dish so Daddy could get a drink first.  He has such intense energy which really helps these dominant dogs understand that they need to give in instead of being stubborn.
